Bird Songs - Western Boreal Forest 2(CD)set

    2004 Produced by Neville Recording

NR08: Bird Songs - Western Boreal Forest 2(CD)set
It is a fantastic set. Almost all of the recordings were made by John as he travelled across Canada's Boreal Forest. Most of the recordings are from Saskatchewan and Alberta. The dialects you hear are of the birds from that region. In the narration he often gives a little extra insight into the species or into the recording. He has not limited himself just to birds. There are a few mammals, including Deer, an interesting recording of a Black Bear, and amphibians which are part of the Boreal soundscape. Some are very interesting. I never realized how much a Green Winged Teal could sound like a jet plane but he has managed to capture a recording of it. He has an excellent recording of the song of the rarely recorded Hawk Owl.

Beginners Guide to B.C. Bird Song 2(CD)set
    CISS 978-9781797-9-3
    2003 Produced by Neville Recording

NR07: Beginners Guide to B.C. Bird Song: 2(CD)set
in honour of BC Nature (Federation of BC Naturalists). This is a joint collaboration between Mel Coulson and John Neville. We have presented the bird songs of 84 species in eight easy lessons. Our goal is to assist people of all ages to recognize the bird songs around them. Backyard birds, forest ,marsh and grasslands of B.C. are all included. Where birds have a regional dialect, such as song sparrows and golden-crowned sparrows, we have given examples. There is a short quiz at the end of each lesson to help in the learning process. This two CD set provides an easy format for naturalists to make their own presentations and increase awareness in their community. We are hoping that naturalist clubs around the province will assist us to present the B.C. soundscape to adults and students alike.

We have included a few birds that only experts can identify. We have done this to alert beginners to the more difficult challenges and allow them to exercise caution when identifying flycatchers and some alpine species.

1996 - Produced at Bullfrog Studios, Vancouver, BC

NR03: Bird Songs of the Okanagan
Quote: "The Morning Star", Vernon, BC. February 1997 "It was wonderful to hear and record my first hermit thrush, sage sparrow, house wren, Prairie falcon, Brewer's sparrow, chukar and California quail. One of my richest memories occurred early in spring, recording western grebe at Salmon Arm Bay, while they performed their elaborate courting ritual dance on the surface of the water. The Okanagan is truly a special place for bird species." John Neville.

1995 - Produced at CBC Studios, Toronto

NR02: Bird Songs of the Creston Valley BC
Quote: "The Express" Nelson BC November 1 1995 "In essence a field guide, the recordings will interest the novice as well as those in the know. There's the Townsend's Warbler who sounds like an ad for a "dollar forty-nine day" or the ruby-crowned kinglet who asks you to "have-a-cup-of-tea". There's the European starling whose feathered celebrity impressions include gulls and catbirds."

Quote "The Express", Nelson BC, Nov 1 1995 : "The recordings are a welcome addition to the very few available of Canadian Bird Songs. Aimed at bird enthusiasts, interested visitors and locals, verbal descriptions coupled with razor-sharp recordings make it possible to identify by sound even the shyest of the feathered species."

The CD also includes recordings from the mountains and valleys of Montana and Idaho where the Kootenay River flows.
